Job Description:
University of Georgia: The University of Georgia (www.uga.edu), founded in 1785, is a land grant/sea grant institution comprised of 16 schools and colleges. Enrollment includes approximately 34,800 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, founded in 1905, is a professional school with 57 faculty, 300 undergraduates, and 200 graduate students. The School offers Bachelor of Science, Master of Forest Resources, Master of Natural Resources, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Majors in the School include forestry, fisheries and wildlife, natural resources recreation and tourism, and water and soil resources. The School has a 740-acre forest less than 10 minutes from campus and 23,000 acres of forestland across the state for teaching and research. An assistantship is available for a master’s level graduate student in the area of Forest Products and Wood Quality. The 12 month assistantship is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Several projects are available for consideration including assessing the impact of intensive management on the physical and mechanical properties of loblolly pine, modeling the impact of intensive management on wood quality, development on new instruments to rapidly assess wood properties, and linking wood properties to product properties. Students should have an undergraduate (BS) degree in forestry, wildlife, wood science, engineering, or other related areas.
Salary:
This research assistantship includes a competitive stipend and a tuition waiver and will be available for approximately two years for MS students.

Job Description:
Project: Development of Quality Crappie Fishing in Mississippi State Lakes Responsibilities: The student will 1) compare chemical marking techniques for crappie otoliths, 2) examine survival and contribution to age-1 of triploid hybrid crappie stocked into small lakes in Mississippi, and 3) identify factors that influence crappie size structure and condition in Mississippi State Lakes. There is great potential to become involved in side projects.
Qualifications:
Qualifications: B.S. in fisheries, aquatic sciences, or related biological field. Minimum GPA of 3.0 overall and in last 60 hours required. Must have taken GRE, with scores of 150 on quantitative and verbal preferred. Minimum TOEFL score of 500 for international students. Other desired qualifications include a strong interest in fisheries and fish ecology, good quantitative skills, the ability to perform rigorous fieldwork responsibly and reliably, and a strong work ethic. Good writing, public speaking, and computer skills expected. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Salary:
Stipend of $16,500 per year with coverage of full tuition and fees. Insurance stipend provided.
