We are seeking a motivated and talented PhD student with interest and skill in tissue deformation simulation and biomechanical modelling. The main focus will be on new approaches of tissue deformation computation for surgical planning. The activity will be carried out in the context of improving planning for forearm surgery, by analyzing and simulating anatomical structures relevant for distal stability during pro-supination. The work will be performed within the scope of a D-A-CH collaborative research project, funded through the FWF and SNSF, respectively, jointly with the University Hospital Balgrist in Zurich and the Institute for Surgical Technology, University of Bern, Switzerland. The development will comprise working in an interdisciplinary team.
Candidates should have earned a Master or Diploma degree in Computer Science, Mechanics, Mathematics, or other related fields. Good knowledge in biomechanics and/or physically-based simulation is expected. In addition, some experience with surgical planning applications is of advantage. Experience and knowledge in C/C++ programming is required, as well as a good level in English, both written and spoken. The position is open immediately until filled. It is offered on the level of a non-permanent university research student for three years. Salaries are internationally competitive and commensurate with qualification and experience. Candidates should send electronically an application with letter of motivation, complete CV, grades and transcripts, relevant certificates, and possible links to relevant prior publications via email.
