SpringTake either GRE general Test or GRE Psychology Subject Test
Summer
Begin to research schools
Obtain the APA Graduate Study in Psychology Guide
Make a list of browsing
September
Request department information and two applications from schools on your browsing list
Photocopy the blank application you receive
Using department information, research the schools on your browsing list even further
Call students or faculty that you know in the field for further information about programs
Get involve in local research or clinical experience
October
Take any remaining GRE test
Finalize your list
Make a master list of deadlines and required material for the schools on your final list
Begin the first draft of your personal essay
November
Have your essays critiqued for content, uniqueness, effectiveness, and grammar
Revise essays as needed
Request your college transcripts
Send recommendation information to references at list one month in advance
Call ETS or check your GRE score report to confirm that your score have been sent
December
Finish your applications. No typos. Keep a blank copy of each application, just in case
Revisit your master checklist for individual school deadlines
Make a photocopy of the completed applications for your record
Mail your completed applications for your records
Mail your completed applications and fees at least one week before deadline
Relax ... it is out of your hands for now.
January, February, March
Wait to hear about interviews, if applicable
Practice and prepare for your interview if you are offered any
Wait to hear about acceptances
Evaluate offers as quickly a possible. Do not hold on to too many
April
Make your final decisions by April 15
Call or write to your references. Tell them what you decided and think them or their help.
