Ph.D. Positions in Machine Learning , University Of Postdam, Germany
Job Description
The institute of Computer Science at the University of Potsdam offers funded Ph.D. positions in the field of machine learning. We offer a first class research environment in an internationally recognized and team-oriented research group. In addition to performing research at the core of machine learning and intelligent data analysis, we also collaborate with scientists from other academic fields and with industry partners in interdisciplinary research projects. During your Ph.D. project, you will be closely mentored by your scientific advisor, and have ample opportunities to present your research results at leading international conferences.
Ph.D. thesis topics will be focused on machine learning approaches for building predictive models in the natural sciences. In interdisciplinary projects we collaborate with research groups from mathematics, geophysics, and cognitive psychology to study problems such as seismic risk analysis and human eye movement patterns. These application domains pose specific challenges to machine learning because observable data violate assumptions made by many standard techniques. Working on these projects, you will push the state of the art in developing and analyzing machine learning algorithms, while at the same time collaborating with scientists from geophysics and psychology to solve relevant predictive modeling problems.
To apply, please send your CV, certificates, and a copy of your last thesis (Master?s or Bachelor?s) as a PDF file to:
Niels Landwehr, landwehr@cs.uni-potsdam.de.
Subject Requirements (Qualification)
We are looking for candidates with a strong master´s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field, who have had exposure to machine learning during their studies. A strong background in probability theory and linear algebra, as well as experience programming in Matlab and C++, is an advantage.
