At the Department of Supply Chain Management and Management Science at the University of Cologne, we analyze and optimize production, logistics and information systems. In doing so, we investigate the supply chain from product design to after sales service. Our focus is on implementing quantitative optimization methods.
From October 1, 2013 (possibly earlier), we are looking for a new PhD candidate as a temporary hire. The salary will be according to tariff part TV-L 13. The work schedule will be 75 to 100 percent of a full time position

- Implementation and application of modern optimization methods for crew scheduling in transportation
- Conduction of business projects at a leading European railway freight carrier
- Publication of research results in international journals
- Collaboration in teaching

Subject Requirements
- Excellent final degree in business studies, economics, data science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative methods in Operations Research
- Sound programming skills (C++) and profound knowledge in databases (SQL)
- High motivation and enjoyment in working on scientific problems
- Collaboration in creative and interdisciplinary teams
- International orientation, profound English language skills
- Knowledge of the German language is advantageous
