Positions Available
The following graduate positions are available in Robotics, Mechatronics, and Automation Lab at Ryerson University/University of Waterloo/University of Toronto under the supervision of Professor Farrokh Janabi-Sharifi.
(1) PhD Position (PhD-STP)- Applicants with strong background in Robot Control are invited to apply. Candidates with experience in image processing, computer vision, and particularly vision-based control will be given priority. Applicants should have a MASc in Electrical-Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, solid knowledge in robot control as well as control theory and practice, and strong team working skills. Industrial experience is not required but is an asset. Research assistantship and scholarships will be provided to the successful candidate. The project is on manufacturing automation for aerospace industry. It is multi-institutional and in close collaboration with aerospace industry and National Research Council of Canada (NRC). The position will commence in January or September 2014.

(2) MASc positions (MASc STP)- Two positions are available for applicants with strong background in Robotics, Control, and/or Image Processing. (4) PhD Position (PhD-US)- Applicants are invited from outstanding candidates with strong expertise in Robot Controland preferably Visual Servoing. Candidates working in the areas of image-based control, medical robotics, and image-guided surgery are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have MASc in Electrical-Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, good working knowledge in robot control as well as control theory and practice, and strong team working skills. Research assistantship and scholarships will be provided to the successful candidate. The project is on US (ultrasound-guided) medical robotics in collaboration with St. Michael’s Hospital and the Department of (Biomedical) Physics. The position will commence in September 2014.

(5) PhD Position (PhD-UAV)- Applicants are invited from outstanding candidates with strong expertise in Robot Control and preferably Visual Servoing. Candidates working in the areas of image-based control, and control of unmanned aerial robotics are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have MASc in Electrical-Computer Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, good working knowledge in robot control as well as control theory and practice, and strong team working skills. Research assistantship and scholarships will be provided to the successful candidate. The project is on image-guided control of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) in collaboration with the University of Toronto- Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS). The position will commence in September 2014.
